PS2


The Sony Playstation 2 is successor of original Playstation and is considered by the most as the best & most popular console of it’s generation. It has been sold approximately 140 millions units worldwide and has the largest software library among its competitors.

The PS2 has the ability to play the games of the older Playstation 1, this is possible due implementation of backward compatibility.

The broadband adapater has also made it possible to run homebrew apps, bringing PS2 into a multi-purpose console. It is possible to run multimedia formats such as video, mp3, and also emulation of other consoles such as NES, SNES and Sega. One of the most popular homebrew app is HDLoader, which enable running games copied from attached harddisk in broadband adaptor, though it is not possible to run PSX games when HDLoader is running.

The emulation of PS2 is lead by PCSX2, an open source emulator. Speed is the prominent problem in early development of PCSX2. Since version 0.94, there has been significant rise of emulation speed. Some popular titles like Kingdom Hearts II and Final Fantasy X are running in full speed. Implementation of Speed Hacks in latest PCSX2 has increased emulation speed significantly. Beta versions are released regularly.
