PCSX2
PCSX2 is a PlayStation 2 emulator for the Microsoft Windows and Linux operating systems. With the most recent versions (0.96), many PS2 games are playable and several games are claimed to have full functionality.
PCSX2, like its predecessor project PCSX, is based on a plugin architecture, separating several functions from the core emulator. These are the graphics, controls, CD/DVD drive, USB, sound and FireWire (i. Link) ports. Different plugins may produce different results in both compatibility and performance.
PCSX 2 is currently the most advanced PS2 emulator being developed. Since version 0.94, speed has increased significantly, many games are getting more playable in each releases.
In order to gain full emulation speed, enable speed hacks and dual core support. PAL game is more easily gain full speed because their maximum framerate is 50 fps.
If game is crashed during FMV sequence when playing beta version, it is recommended to switch back to stable version. Please note that the save states between beta version and stable version are incompatible, so you can’t save your game state at beta version and load them in stable version and vice versa.
Most 2D games and menus can reach 60-120 frame/s when specific plugins are used, and with the latest version, in-game 3D performance on a relatively new desktop computer can reach speeds greater than the native PS2 frame rate of 60 frame/s (NTSC) and 50 frame/s (PAL).
